Whether flat or higher – you decide what's best for you.
Here's How to Determine Your Support Needs
To choose the right pillow height, you can determine your support needs yourself. All you need is a folding ruler.
But bear in mind: your need for support depends, amongst other things, on your body type, your preferred sleeping position and the firmness of your mattress.
Supine position
Stand upright with your back against a wall. It is important that your head does not touch the wall; keep it completely straight. Measure the distance between the back of your head and the wall. If it is less than 3 cm, you need less support. A flatter pillow is usually the right choice for you. From 5 cm onwards, you need a lot of support. A higher pillow will offer you more support.
Lying on one's side
Stand sideways against a wall, keeping your back straight. Now measure the distance between the outermost side of your head and the wall. If the gap is up to about 13 cm, you’ll need little support on a medium-firm mattress, so a fairly low pillow will suffice. From about 18 cm onwards, you’ll need a high level of support. If your mattress is firmer, your pillow should also provide more support, as your shoulder won’t sink in as deeply.
