Topper 180×200 cm – the Classic for the Double Bed

Toppers 180x200 cm are particularly well-known and popular among fans of box spring beds. If you want to lie softer, you can place a mattress topper on your mattress. A positive side effect? Your mattress is somewhat protected underneath. But don't confuse a topper with a mattress protector. A mattress protector is a much thinner mattress topper. It is designed to keep dirt away from your mattress, but ideally should not change the way you feel when lying on it.

Topper 180x200 cm – Connects

The 180x200 cm topper is probably one of the most popular sizes in Germany. This is because the double bed in these dimensions is one of the best-selling bed frames. It contains either a continuous 180×200 cm mattress or two 90×200 cm mattresses. With two mattresses in a double bed, each person can choose their own firmness level on their side. If the mattresses are on two height-adjustable slatted frames 90×200 cm, the headboard and footboard can be adjusted for each side of the bed according to personal preference. The only thing that detracts from the cosiness is the gap between the two mattresses. This gap is called the visitor's crack and this is exactly where the 180×200 cm topper can help. It either covers the visitor gap so that you hardly notice it, or it covers the love bridge, a special device that closes the visitor gap. In both cases, the 180x200 cm topper compensates for unevenness and ensures an almost continuous lying surface.

What Makes a Good 180x200 cm Topper?

A topper is comparable to a fairly thin mattress and, like a mattress, consists of a core and a cover. In the topper core, you will find the same materials that are used in mattress production. Toppers are usually a few centimeters high. However, the topper should not be too thick, as this can mask the ergonomic properties of the mattress underneath. Of course, the properties of the mattress under your 180x200 cm topper should also be good enough for you to want to keep it. If not, a topper can't do much for you either. No topper can improve an unfavorable mattress.

This is what your 180x200 cm topper should have:

  • It must be thick enough to create a softer lying sensation: at least 3 cm
  • It should be thin enough to maintain the properties of the mattress: no thicker than 10 cm
  • A zoned topper 180x200 cm is ideal for a zoned mattress 180x200 cm
  • Ideally, you can wash your topper yourself or take it to the dry cleaner
  • A soft, breathable material that lasts a long time

Mattress Cover 180×200 cm: Topper, Mattress Protector, Moisture Protection

Mattress topper 180×200 cm: topper, mattress protector, moisture protection It may sound like two terms for one and the same thing: A topper 180×200 cm is a type of mattress topper 180×200 cm. However, a mattress topper is not necessarily a topper. A mattress topper much more commonly refers to a mattress protector or an incontinence topper. This type of mattress topper is not made for the comfort of your mattress. It is only there to protect your mattress from wear and tear, dirt or moisture. Ideally, a 180×200 cm mattress topper should not affect the lying properties of the mattress at all. It should preserve them.

Washing Topper and Mattress Cover 180x200 cm

You should definitely be able to wash a mattress topper - especially wetness protection toppers. Preferably at 60 °C. This hygienic washing temperature ensures that even heavy soiling is removed and bacteria and germs are reliably killed. Washability is also an advantage with a topper. Some toppers cannot be washed as a whole, but have a removable, washable cover. If neither the cover can be removed nor the topper washed by hand, you can take it to a professional dry cleaner.

Which Material Is Best for a 180x200 cm Topper?

You are probably already familiar with most topper materials as a component of mattress cores. Toppers 180x200 cm and mattresses should match. However, they do not necessarily have to be made of the same material. It is much more important that the different lying zones of the mattress are supported or at least not negatively influenced. Different materials have different properties. They can make your 180x200 cm topper heavier or lighter so that you can handle it more easily. Some materials have a fast resilience, others react a little more slowly and thus create a memory effect. Depending on whether you sleep peacefully or move around a lot, this property will affect your well-being. Some materials and the properties attributed to them are window dressing. For example, layers with nice-sounding names are often used, which have little effect on the sleeping experience, but above all on the price.

The BODYGUARD® Topper 180×200 cm – a Topper with Profil

The surface of most toppers or topper covers is smooth. However, some models have a profile on the lying surface. This is also the case with the BODYGUARD® Topper: the profile creates an even softer lying sensation. To prevent your 180x200 cm topper from slipping on the mattress, the BODYGUARD® Topper has four elastic loops that you can use to attach it to the mattress. Thanks to the symmetrically arranged lying zones, it doesn't matter which way round you place the BODYGUARD® Topper 180x200 cm on the mattress. You can also use both sides of the topper as the lying side. Like the BODYGUARD® Mattress, one side is covered with breathable HyBreeze®, the other with fluffy BaumwollSleep®.

Medical toppers are often made of gel foam. However, the gel foam toppers you get in the shops are usually a sham. There is often only a very thin layer of gel foam in the topper. The effect is only on marketing, but not on your intervertebral discs or back pain.

With two single mattresses 90x200 cm in a double bed, a topper 180x200 cm can connect the two sides of the bed to form a continuous lying surface. In all other cases, the quality of the mattress is more important for your sleep. If you already have a good mattress, make sure that your topper retains its lying properties.

  1. Even the best topper cannot turn a bad mattress into a good mattress
  2. If your mattress is sagging, not even a topper can save it
  3. A topper cannot make a soft mattress firmer
