Sleep Royally in a King-Size Bed

The 200×200 cm mattress offers enough space for the whole family. On the largest standard width among mattresses, you can spread out in every conceivable direction. The luxurious size of 200 x 200 cm is ideal if you have space in your bedroom and want to make the most of it.

What Is a King-Size Bed?

The term king-size bed comes from the USA. The American measurement for a king-size bed is 76×80 inches, which would be 193×203 cm in the metric system. In Germany, however, a king-size bed has a mattress measuring 200x200 cm. More rarely, a 180×200 cm mattress is also referred to as a king-size mattress.

One 200×200 Cm Mattress or Two 100×200 Cm Mattresses?

With the largest standard size for mattresses, you have the fewest restrictions for your personal sleeping experience if you use two 100x200 cm mattresses in a double bed instead of one continuous 200x200 cm mattress. The expansive king-size mattress base of the 200x200 cm mattress offers you a real playground feeling. Unfortunately, this is lost when using two mattresses and the resulting visitor crack.

Two individual, smaller mattresses always leave an area in the middle of the bed that is a little more yielding. You can soften the so-called visiting crack with some aids, but the lying experience always falls short of that of a continuous lying surface. With a full-length mattress, the common snuggle zone is mainly in the middle of the mattress - with a double mattress 100×200 cm, it automatically shifts to one of the two single mattresses.

Two Individual Mattresses for Different Firmness Levels

With the 200×200 cm king-size mattress, we only recommend single mattresses of 100x200 cm if you have very different ideas about the individual firmness of your bed.If you and your fellow sleepers cannot find any compromises for the same firmness level, two differently firm or soft mattresses make sense. You can use various tips and tricks to close the gap between the mattresses and even combine some of them:

  • Use one large 200 x 200 cm mattress cover for both mattresses
  • Cover both mattresses with a large fitted sheet
  • A firm bed frame prevents slipping apart
  • So-called gap fillers or love bridges can provide a remedy
  • Use a continuous topper

Spring Core, Latex or Cold Foam Mattress 200×200 Cm?

The material from which the mattress core is made can be responsible for the different lying properties of a mattress. While the spring core was the most widespread in a wide variety of designs for many years, the 200×200 cm cold foam mattress has now overtaken mattresses made of metal springs. We rely on our specially created QXSchaum® Mattress Foam for our mattresses. From our classic BODYGUARD® anti-CartelMattress to the BODYGUARD® Box-Spring Mattress, which completely rethinks the box-spring bed concept and consists of 100% solid foam. QXSchaum® is a foam that has been specially developed for mattresses. It impresses with its high point elasticity and durability. A 200x200 cm foam mattress made from this material therefore does exactly what it is supposed to do for a long time: support your body. Latex mattress cores, which are rather rare, have similar properties to those made of cold foam, but are significantly heavier and require more care.

The Right Slatted Frame for a 200×200 cm Mattress

A slatted frame for the 200×200 cm king-size mattress must meet high standards:

1. The narrower, the more stable

The stability of a wide slatted frame is impaired due to the insufficient load distribution on the very long slats. From a bed width of 160 cm, you therefore need two slatted frames.

2. Large slatted frames are custom-made products

From a width of over 140 cm, a slatted frame is considered a custom-made product. Custom-made products are not only expensive, you also waive your right of return when placing an order. If you need a wider slat base than the 140×200 cm slatted frame, always use two smaller slatted frames. For the 200×200 cm mattress, you therefore need two 100×200 cm slatted frames..

3. Suspension is king

In a high-quality slatted frame, the caps of the cross slats rest on the bars. So if two BODYGUARD® Slatted Frames 100×200 cm are used under a mattress 200×200 cm, the result is a fully sprung lying surface of 200×200 cm. Take care not to buy a slatted frame with clamped slats, as this leaves the area in the middle of the bed unsprung.

4. Adjustability on both sides of the bed

The biggest advantage of two slatted frames for each side of the bed is certainly the individual adjustments that you can make on each side of the bed. The BODYGUARD® Slatted Frame is not only adjustable in terms of the degree of suspension, but also in terms of the height in the head and foot area. Please note, however, that when using a continuous 200×200 cm mattress, the head and foot sections cannot be adjusted separately for each side - for this you need two individual 100×200 cm mattresses.
