Mattress 100×200 cm – Would You Like A Little More?

The 100×200 cm mattress is the next largest mattress width after the 90×200 cm mattress, the favorite mattress in Germany. Ten centimeters more, which feels like a whole corner more space. Especially if the mattress is placed twice next to each other in a double bed. Two 100 x 200 cm mattresses next to each other make a comfortable 200×200 cm king-size mattress.

What to Consider Before Buying a Mattress 100x200 cm

Before buying a mattress for an existing bed, you should always note the mattress dimensions and check them again if necessary. As the mattress is a long-term purchase, the actual bed dimensions can sometimes be forgotten. If possible, don't rush into buying the next supposed bargain only to find that the mattress either doesn't fit into the bed frame or you have to stuff a gap in the bed frame with towels. If you subsequently buy a bed to match the bargain mattress, any savings will disappear into thin air. Even if you can return the mattress, this means more effort for you and a burden on the environment than taking a quick measurement before buying. Thorough research is of course a prerequisite for finding the best product at a fair price.

Mattress 100×200 – Single or Couple's Mattress?

A 100×200 cm mattress offers you a sleeping area of 2 m². This area is a comfortable amount of space if you want to sleep alone. It is certainly possible to spend nights for two on this mattress size - especially for newlyweds or narrower people who need a lot of closeness. Single parents with a child who often comes to cuddle for a few hours in the evening or morning may find a 100×200 cm mattress too small, depending on their own space requirements. The 100×200 cm mattress is not suitable as a family bed or long-term solution for couples. As a couple's mattress, the 100×200 cm mattress comes into play when two mattresses are combined to form a large king-size double bed. Here, the decision is often made between two single mattresses or a continuous 200×200 cm mattress.

Two 100×200 Mattresses or One 200×200 Mattress?

In contrast to all other common double bed variants with two mattresses, the double version of the 100×200 cm mattress in a double bed offers the least individual restriction in terms of lying comfort. In general, a full-length 200×200 cm mattress is the more comfortable solution for a double bed. This is because the combination of two 100x200 cm mattresses also creates a visiting crack that can restrict your comfort. If you and your loved one have very different requirements when it comes to the firmness of the mattress, there is no getting around two 100x200 cm mattresses in a double bed. There are a number of ways to minimize the disturbance factor of visitors' cracks, some of which you can combine with each other.

  1. A very narrow bed frame that holds both mattress cores together so that the mattresses do not slip out of place
  2. A continuous 200×200 cm mattress cover that is stretched over both mattress cores
  3. A so-called love bridge or gap filler between the mattresses
  4. A continuous 200×200 cm topper that connects the two individual mattress bases into one large one
  5. A fitted sheet that you can use to cover and connect both 100x200 cm mattresses

Mattress 100×210 cm and Mattress 100×220 cm

The aim should be to have about 10 cm of space at the head and foot end. Strictly speaking, if you are taller than 180 cm, a 100x200 cm mattress will be a little cramped. If you want the sleeping surface to be larger, but not wider, but longer, you will need a 100×210 cm mattress or a 100×220 cm mattress. The extra space in the length provides more comfort, especially for tall people.

The Matching Slatted Frame

For the 100x200 cm mattress, there are stable, continuous slatted frames in the same dimensions. If you sleep in a 200x200 cm double bed, two 100x200 cm slatted frames are also required under the mattresses, regardless of whether there is one continuous 200x200 cm mattress or two 100×200 cm mattresses in the double bed. The 140×200 slatted frame is the largest standard width for slatted frames. From a width of 160 cm, slatted frames are only available in rare cases, and if so, only as a custom-made product. This additional effort in production is reflected both in the price and in the fact that the right of return is not granted. Another disadvantage of very wide slatted frames is that continuous slatted frames mainly spring in the middle. With wide beds, this results in a sprung middle zone, which can lead to unsprung lying areas.
