In Germany's double beds, the mattress is 160×200 cm. The classic double bed is mainly supplied with a 160×200 cm mattress. It is also called a queen-size bed. In contrast to the smallest double bed mattress 140×200 cm, the 160×200 cm mattresses offer enough space for several people. In contrast to the larger 180x200 cm and 200x200 cm mattresses, they are more inviting for snuggling up.

160×200 Mattress - Long-Term Marriage and Young Happiness

Ideal for one or two people, the 160×200 mattress is already quite cramped with a child. Parents with children who consciously opt for a family bed therefore do not choose the 160×200 cm mattress. Generally speaking, this size is the exception in households of couples with children today. Younger couples without children in particular prefer the 160×200 cm mattress. The 160×200 cm mattress is also particularly common in the classic double bed of the older generation. The latter still have the 160x200 cm marriage bed from the time when parenting styles that included sleeping in a family bed were less common.

Mattress 160x200 Cm for Single Use with Options

The 160×200 mattress is an extremely popular model for single people and single parents. One parent and children have enough space on the mattress, whether as weekend guests or permanently sleeping with the separated parent or because the nightmare chased them out of the crib. If the child is not yet sleeping through the night and the parents are together, the next largest mattress 180×200 cm is more suitable for a safe family bed. The lying surface on the 160x200 cm mattress leaves plenty of room for one person to stretch out. The model is still space-saving in small apartments and leaves enough room for overnight guests.

A 160×200 Cm or 80×200 Cm Double Mattress?

A full-length 160×200 cm mattress generally offers you greater comfort than two smaller 80×200 cm mattresses. With only one mattress, there is no visitor crack. It's simply more comfortable. If your idea of a soft or firm bed differs too much from that of your loved one, it makes sense to use two smaller mattresses with different firmness levels. There are a number of aids that you can combine to compensate for the visitor's crack:

  • a so-called love bridge or gap filler
  • the use of a continuous mattress cover
  • a tightly fitted bed frame
  • a full-length fitted sheet
  • a 160×200 cm topper

Mattress 160×210 Cm and Mattress 160×220 Cm

The 160×210 cm mattress and the 160×220 cm mattress are available for tall people. When buying a mattress, you should make sure that you have approx. 10 cm of space in the head and foot area up to the end of the mattress. Strictly speaking, you can lie comfortably on a 160x200 cm mattress up to a body height of 180 cm. If you are taller, a 160×210 cm mattress or the 160×220 cm mattress will fit better. Of course, the greater range in length can also offer more comfort for everyone else. Whether necessary or simply comfortable, the 160×210 cm mattress and the 160×220 cm mattress provide more space at the head and foot end.

The Right Slatted Frame

A 160×200 cm slatted frame is not usually manufactured. With the exception of custom-made products, the 140×200 slatted frame is the widest of its kind. The maximum width of slatted frames results from the fact that spring slats above a length of 140 cm break more quickly and spring less well. With a 160×200 cm mattress, it is best to use two 80x200 cm slatted frames. This allows you to adjust both sides of the bed individually to the sleeping requirements of the person in question.
