Germany's Couples Sleep on the 180×200 cm Mattress

The 180×200 cm mattress is one of the most popular mattress sizes for double beds in Germany. Like the slightly wider 200×200 cm mattress, the 180×200 cm mattress belongs in a king-size bed. In a king-size bed, however, the slightly smaller size, the 180x200 cm mattress, is the more popular one.

The 180×200 cm mattress corresponds exactly to two 90×200 cm mattresses, which are often found in single beds. This does not change sleeping habits. In the best case scenario, previous single mattresses can simply be put together with the household to fill a double bed.

Two adults have enough space on the 3.6 m² sleeping surface. The bed also offers space for one or two children. The 180×200 mattress is therefore ideal as a family bed.

Mattress 180×200 cm - Between Space and Cuddling

On the 180×200 cm mattress, you can decide according to your needs whether you want to snuggle up or keep your distance. Many people find the 160×200 cm mattress - the next size down - rather cramped. Others feel lost and lonely with a larger mattress of 200×200 cm despite being together.

One 180×200 cm Mattress or Two 90×200 cm Mattresses?

The question of a continuous mattress in a double bed or two individual mattresses on the mattress sides is a question of comfort and price. Generally speaking, you can expect better lying comfort with a full-length mattress. With the 180x200 cm mattress, there is no visitor crack. You also don't have to put up with any unevenness caused by a love bridge or a gap filler in the middle of the bed.

Two illustrations side by side: on the left a person on a continuous 180x200 cm mattress, on the right a person sinking between two single 90x200 cm mattresses in the visiting crack.

However, two mattresses in a double bed make sense if you and your favorite person have very different requirements for the firmness of the mattress. The visitor's crack can be softened by two mattress cores in a large mattress cover, a narrow bed frame or a full-length topper.

Mattress 180×210 cm and Mattress 180×220 cm

If the bed should not only be large, but also long, the 180×210 cm mattress and the 180×220 cm mattress offer extra space in length and more comfort - whether for taller people or if the dog and cat sleep at the foot end. The rule of thumb for mattress length is that there should be about 10 cm of space in the head and foot area. The 180×210 cm mattress and the 180×220 cm mattress offer tall people or people with pets this space. You can order the BODYGUARD® Mattress 180×210 cm as well as the BODYGUARD® Mattress 180×220 cm in the regular bett1.de range.

The Right Fitted Sheet for a 180×200 cm Mattress

The right fitted sheet is a must for every mattress. A 180-200x200 cm sheet fits best on a 180x200 cm mattress. If you have two 90x200 mattresses in a double bed, you can use a full-length sheet to ensure a better connection between the two sides of the bed.

If you opt for an extra-long 180 cm mattress, you will need a 180×220 cm fitted sheet - preferably a few of them. Standard fitted sheets, which are designed to be 200 cm long, usually do not fit properly on an extra-long mattress. An elastic fitted sheet 180×220 cm, such as the BODYGUARD® jersey fitted sheet 180×220 cm, is equally suitable for mattresses 210 cm and 220 cm long.

For higher mattresses 180x200 cm or if you are using a topper on your mattress, a fitted sheet with a particularly high rise offers sufficient space. The BODYGUARD® extra high fitted sheet fits mattresses up to 32 cm high and stays exactly where you want it.

The Right Slatted Frame

When it comes to slatted frames, the opposite applies to the choice between one or two mattresses for a double bed. For stability reasons, slatted frames are only produced up to a width of 140×200 cm. For a 180×200 mattress, it is therefore essential to use two 90×200 cm slatted frames.

Full-length Slatted Frames Only Spring in the Middle

With a continuous slatted frame, only the middle of your bed would be optimally sprung, whereas the tension at the sides would not be sufficient. This means that only one person sleeping in the middle benefits from the suspension. If two people each sleep on one side of the bed, any suspension effect is lost.

Differentiated Settings for Different Sleeping Needs

Two slatted frames can be individually adjusted to suit the person sleeping on them. This means that the correct slatted frame setting can slightly compensate for different needs in terms of firmness.A full-length 180x200 cm mattress can therefore be realized with two differently adjusted slatted frames, even if there are different requirements in terms of firmness.

Narrower Slatted Frames Are More Stable

The longer the supporting slats of a slatted frame are, the more weight they have to bear. The load is better distributed with shorter slats. For stability reasons, spring slats with a maximum length of 140 cm are therefore used. The 140×200 cm slatted frame is therefore the widest of its kind. Two 90x200 cm slatted frames therefore belong under the 180x200 cm mattress.
