70×200 cm Mattress – the Slim Cold Foam Mattress for Space-Conscious Sleepers

A 70×200 cm mattress is an especially narrow mattress size, measuring 70 cm in width and 200 cm in length. If you want to save space while sleeping and leave more room for living, a 70 cm mattress could be the right choice for you.

Who Is a 70×200 Cm Mattress Suitable For?

Because a 70×200 cm mattress is a very narrow size, it is particularly suitable if you want to save space with a 70×200 cm single bed and do not need much sleeping surface. A 70×200 cm mattress is therefore a good choice for:

  • children’s and teenagers’ bedrooms
  • slim adults who do not need much space to sleep
  • small living spaces
  • guest rooms, holiday apartments, motorhomes, and tiny houses

If you tend to move around a lot in your sleep and sometimes wake up lying diagonally across the bed, a 70×200 cm single bed is probably not the best long-term solution for you. However, you can also use a 70×200 cm mattress to extend your DIY bed setup. For example, when combined with a 140×200 cm mattress, it creates a family bed measuring 210×200 cm.

Buying a 70×200 cm Mattress – What to Look For

Choosing the Right Firmness

The right firmness for a 70×200 cm mattress mainly depends on the following factors:

  • body type
  • sleeping position
  • personal comfort preference

A common rule of thumb says: the higher the body weight, the firmer the mattress should be. However, such generalizations should be treated with caution. What matters most is that your spine remains in a neutral position in your preferred sleeping posture so it can recover properly.

A mattress is suitable if it

  1. allows the pelvis and rib cage to sink in enough so the lumbar and thoracic spine are not forced into a compensating curve (especially when sleeping on your side)
  2. is not so soft that the pelvis or rib cage sink too deeply, causing the lower back to sag or twist
  3. is not so firm that shoulders and hips can hardly sink in and rest on top of the mattress, causing the spine to bend unnaturally

When choosing a mattress, do not rely solely on common firmness labels such as H1, H2, H3, H4, or H5. A good mattress supports your body regardless of the firmness rating. Ultimately, whether you prefer a softer or firmer feel comes down to personal preference. In Germany, most people sleep on a medium-firm mattress. If you want to find out whether a mattress is right for you, a multi-week sleep trial is essential. You can test the BODYGUARD® Anti-Kartell-Matratze ® mattress 70×200 cm comfortably at home for 100 nights.

Mattress Height and Core Construction

You should pay close attention to both the mattress height and the core construction, as these two factors determine ergonomics and durability. An adequate mattress height allows for better pressure distribution and prevents heavier parts of the body from pressing through to the slatted frame. However, when it comes to mattress height, more is not necessarily better. Innovative materials such as QXSchaum® Mattress Foam are highly resilient and reliably return to their original shape. This allows them to support your body effectively even in a compact mattress with an 18 cm core height. The core construction determines how precisely different areas of the body are supported. Multi-zone cores or ergonomic modules like those used in BODYGUARD® mattresses allow different body regions to sink in and be supported appropriately – promoting neutral spinal alignment and improving long-term sleeping comfort.

Cover and Washability

For optimal hygiene, your 70×200 cm mattress should have a removable cover that can be washed at 60 °C. Only at 60 °C can germs and allergens be reliably eliminated, which is particularly important for people with dust mite allergies.

Foam Density

Foam density indicates the density of the material in kg/m³. For a long time, it was considered an important indicator of quality and durability. Since the introduction of ultra-light QXSchaum® Mattress Foam, however, foam density alone is no longer a reliable quality marker for mattresses. QXSchaum® Mattress Foam is exceptionally stable and durable – despite its relatively low foam density of 35–40 kg/m³.

Tested for Harmful Substances

For products designed for prolonged skin contact, you should always ensure they have been tested for harmful substances. The Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 label confirms compliance with applicable limits and certifies that the product is safe for health.

70×200 cm Cold Foam Mattress – Benefits for Ergonomics and Pressure Relief

High-quality 70×200 cm cold foam mattresses stand out thanks to

  • high point elasticity for optimal body contouring
  • good breathability and moisture regulation
  • durability and shape retention

Point Elasticity – What Does It Mean?

Point elasticity describes a mattress’s ability to yield only where pressure is applied, without the surrounding areas sinking in as well. High point elasticity therefore allows the mattress to adapt precisely to the body’s contours and support the spine more effectively.

QXSchaum® – Light, Stable, and Responsive

The core of the BODYGUARD® Anti-Kartell-Matratze® mattress 70×200 cm is made from 100% innovative QXSchaum® Mattress Foam. QXSchaum® Mattress Foam is a premium cold foam material known for its exceptional point elasticity and durability, developed specifically for mattresses.

Yes and no. A length of 200 cm is the standard for mattresses, at least in Germany and large parts of Europe. A width of 70 cm, however, is relatively uncommon. Many manufacturers only offer mattresses starting at widths of 80 or 90 cm.

While this is possible, it is not necessarily recommended as a long-term solution for a double bed. If you only occasionally have overnight guests, a 140×200 cm mattress is usually the better choice. For a double bed, two 80×200 cm or 90×200 cm mattresses are typically more suitable – or a single continuous mattress in 160×200 cm or 180×200 cm if you both prefer the same firmness level. This also helps avoid the annoying gap between two mattresses.

Whether a mattress is suitable for you does not primarily depend on its width, but on its support properties and the material. A 70×200 cm mattress can – depending on the model – be suitable for people of different body weights. However, you should keep in mind that the 70×200 cm size is generally better suited for slimmer individuals – regardless of their weight.

Yes, cold foam mattresses are available in many firmness levels, including firmer options. Depending on the type and quality, cold foam offers good point elasticity and is a popular choice for anyone who prefers a firmer sleeping surface.
