Mattress 140x220 cm – Plenty of Space for Taller People

Whether you’re sleeping alone or as a couple, the 140x220 cm mattress is the ideal intermediate size. If you’re on your own, you’ll have plenty of space both lengthways and widthways. For two people, this extra-long French bed is suitable in the long term if you don’t mind being close together. You’ll often find 140x220 cm mattresses in teenagers’ bedrooms, first-time flats and anywhere where people mainly sleep alone.

Who is the 140×220 cm Mattress Suitable for?

You can sleep comfortably on the 140×220 cm mattress, whether on your own or as a couple. The extra length is particularly beneficial for taller people. When buying a mattress, you should generally ensure that you have about 10 cm of space at both the head and foot ends. So add about 20 cm to your height and you’ll have the right mattress length for you – a few centimetres more or less usually doesn’t make any difference. Strictly speaking, however, the standard mattress length of 200 cm is only suitable for people up to around 180 cm tall. But even if you don’t exceed this guideline, the extra space at the head and foot ends of the 140×220 cm BODYGUARD® mattress can simply be more comfortable or provide space for dogs and cats sleeping in bed.

140×220 cm Mattress – Foam vs. Spring Core

The vast majority of mattresses available today are either foam mattresses or spring core mattresses. Latex or gel foam mattresses are less common. Modern manufacturing processes can offer you high point elasticity, regardless of the mattress material. Whilst foam and latex naturally react with greater point elasticity under pressure, a great deal has changed in the world of spring mattresses: the old Bonell spring core – the one with interconnected springs that gives sofas and mattresses that bouncy feel – has long since had its day. You might still come across it occasionally as an intermediate layer in box-spring beds or old-fashioned upholstered furniture. Instead, pocket spring cores – with individually sewn springs that can yield independently of one another – have become the norm. More advanced manufacturing methods have also made things a lot easier when it comes to mattress weight – in the truest sense of the word. Whereas the old adage used to be ‘the heavier, the better’, mattresses featuring advanced foams such as QXSchaum® now stand out thanks to their low density combined with high quality and long-lasting durability.

Mattress 140×220 cm – Firmness levels

In Germany, the firmness of a mattress is usually indicated by the designations H1, H2, H3, H4 and H5, with H1 being the softest and H5 the firmest. By far the most popular firmness level in this country is H3, which is medium-firm. The BODYGUARD® Anti-Kartell mattress 140×220 cm offers two firmness levels for the price of one: one side is medium-firm, the other firmer. The dimensionally stable QXSchaum® ensures that you don’t need to rotate or flip the mattress regularly. Only if you want to change the firmness level can you simply flip the BODYGUARD® over to sleep on a softer or firmer side.

Slatted Frame 140×220 cm – it’s all About Stability

Naturally, every slatted base should be as stable as possible. If you want to use a 140×220 cm mattress on it, bear in mind that a 140×220 cm slatted base is pretty much the largest one normally available on the market. To be sufficiently stable, slatted bases are normally no wider than 140 cm. The combination of the widest slatted base and an extra-long mattress therefore places considerable demands on the slatted base. The taller the person, the greater their body weight, of course. This makes it all the more important that your 140×200 cm slatted base is truly stable.

What Makes Your Slatted Base Particularly Stable:

  • the right type of wood: Beech offers the ideal balance of stability and flexibility
  • the slats: extra-wide or particularly numerous slats

The Right Fitted Sheet 140×220 cm

Whilst most fitted sheets have a little extra room in the width, they usually lack this in the length. For extra-long mattresses, you’ll also need an extra-long fitted sheet. The BODYGUARD® jersey fitted sheet (140×220 cm) is suitable for both 140×210 cm and 140×220 cm mattresses. If you have a particularly thick mattress, the height of the sheet’s elasticated edge should also be slightly higher

The firmness of a good mattress depends, above all, on your personal preferences. Do you prefer a softer or firmer feel? A good mattress should provide good support and allow you to sink in comfortably, regardless of its firmness and your body type. Not sure which firmness you prefer? With the BODYGUARD® mattress, you have a choice of two firmness levels and 100 nights to try it out.

Persistent pain in the morning or throughout the day – particularly in the back, neck or hip area – can have numerous causes. An unsuitable mattress is just one of them – but it’s a significant one. Do you feel constantly tired and lacking in energy, even though your blood test results and stress levels aren’t to blame? If so, you might want to consider changing your mattress.

You often use your mattress for years. The more worn out your mattress is, the more your body gets used to an uncomfortable position. If you lie on a new mattress after a long time, your body has to adjust. That takes time. bett1 gives you 100 nights to try out your new mattress to your heart’s content.
