Mattress 180x220 cm – The Extra-Long Double Mattress

The mattress 180x220 cm offers plenty of space for couples and taller people who like to stretch out. Thanks to its extra 20 cm in length compared to standard sizes, it is particularly well suited to anyone over 190 cm tall. If you're looking for greater freedom of movement while you sleep, a Mattress 180x220 cm is also an excellent choice.

Who Is a Mattress 180x220 cm Right For?

The mattress 180x220 cm is ideal for anyone who doesn't want to compromise on sleep comfort. While standard double mattresses are often sufficient, taller couples and restless sleepers in particular benefit from the extra 20 cm. As a rule of thumb, there should be at least 10 cm of space between the sleeper's head and feet and the ends of the mattress.

A Mattress 180x220 cm Is Particularly Suitable For:

  • Couples who want plenty of space
  • Taller people measuring around 190 cm or more
  • People who frequently move up and down the bed during the night
  • Families where children or pets occasionally share the bed

What to Look For When Buying a Mattress 180x220 cm

When buying a mattress, pay attention to the following:

  • the right firmness level for you
  • a mattress cover that can be removed and machine washed at 60 °C
  • the Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 label, which certifies that the product has been tested for harmful substances and is safe for your health
  • ergonomic zoning to ensure different parts of the body receive the right level of support
  • high point elasticity for optimum body contouring and pressure relief
  • the option to sleep on it for several weeks before deciding

One Mattress 180x220 cm or Two Mattresses 90x220 cm?

The main advantage of a single mattress 180x220 cm for a double bed is that there's no annoying gap in the middle to come between you and your favourite person. Instead, a mattress 180x220 cm is perfect for snuggling up together. That said, it works best if both sleepers prefer a similar firmness level. If that's not the case, two mattresses 90x220 cm are the better choice, allowing each of you to choose the firmness that suits you best. What's more, BODYGUARD® mattresses feature two integrated firmness levels. Simply flip the mattress for a softer feel – or turn it over again for firmer support.

Alternative Mattress Sizes

Not sure if a mattress 180x220 cm is the right choice for you? One of the following large mattress sizes might be a better fit.

Mattress 180x210 cm

If you or your favourite person are tall but under 190 cm, a mattress with a length of 210 cm may well be sufficient. It saves you 10 cm of space, which can make a real difference in a bedroom where every centimetre counts.

Mattress 200x200 cm

Perhaps you don't need the extra length at all – what you really need is more width. If that's the case, a square mattress 200x200 cm could be the better choice.

If you're looking for the ultimate sleep surface with plenty of room for the whole family, a mattress 200x220 cm is the perfect choice.

Choose the Right Bed Frame

Of course, your mattress should also fit your bed frame. If you're unsure, it's best to measure it first. Keep in mind that the actual internal dimensions of a bed frame may differ slightly from its nominal size.

Cold Foam or Innerspring Mattress?

Every mattress type has its own advantages. As long as the quality is high and you choose the firmness level that's right for you, both can provide excellent comfort and support. Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference.

The Right Fitted Sheet

If you've been sleeping on a standard-length mattress until now, you may need a new set of fitted sheets for your mattress 180x220 cm. The right size is a fitted sheet 180–200x220 cm. Thanks to their stretch, fitted sheets are often available in size ranges rather than exact dimensions. If you have a particularly deep mattress, such as a box spring mattress, you may need a fitted sheet with a greater pocket depth. It's best to measure the height of your mattress before buying.

BODYGUARD® Jersey Fitted Sheet and BODYGUARD® Fitted Sheet Extra Deep

  • Jersey made from 96% cotton and 4% elastane for excellent stretch and recovery
  • Heavyweight fabric at approximately 240 g/m² for durability and long-lasting quality
  • Machine washable at up to 60 °C for optimum hygiene
  • Available in silver and white

The Right Slatted Frame for a Mattress 180x220 cm

It's unlikely you'll find a slatted frame 180x220 cm. As a rule, slatted frames are only available up to a width of 140 cm. Any wider and the sprung slats would become too unstable in the centre, making them more likely to sag or break over time. That's why two slatted frames measuring 90x220 cm are the recommended choice for a mattress 180x220 cm.

The mattress 180x220 cm is particularly well suited to couples where one or both partners are 190 cm or taller, or simply to anyone who enjoys having plenty of room to stretch out in bed.

With a single mattress 180x220 cm, you can avoid the annoying gap in the middle of the bed. With two mattresses 90x220 cm, each person can choose the firmness level that suits them best.

For a mattress 180x220 cm, you'll need two slatted frames measuring 90x220 cm each. Slatted frames in 180x220 cm are not available because they would be too unstable.
