Mattress 90×200 cm: the Universally Popular

The most popular mattress in Germany is the 90×200 cm mattress. In fact, 90×200 cm mattresses are the secret stars in the mattress business. This is mainly due to the fact that the 90×200 cm mattress is often ordered not just once, but twice for the 180x200 cm double bed.

Who Sleeps on the 90x200 cm Mattress?

The mattress length of 200 cm is perfectly adequate for people of average height. But taller people can also sleep comfortably on the popular 90x200 cm mattress. It is advisable to have an additional 10 cm of space in the head and foot area of the mattress. From a certain height, a longer mattress, such as the 90x210 cm mattress or the 90x220 cm mattress, therefore offers sufficient space. For children who are still growing, you are prepared for sudden growth spurts with a 90×200 cm mattress.

90×200 cm Mattresses for Single and Double Beds

A 90 x 200 cm mattress has a lying surface of 1.8 m² and therefore offers enough space to lie down and to turn and turn over around 30 to 60 times a night - as is normal for healthy sleep.Couples also sleep on 90 x 200 cm mattresses. In many double beds, there are often two individual 90 x 200 cm mattresses instead of one large 180×200 cm mattress - despite visitors' cracks and the need to cuddle up.

Why Two 90x200 cm Mattresses in a Double Bed?

When deciding on two 90x200 cm mattresses in a double bed instead of one 180x200 cm mattress, different demands on the firmness of the mattress often play a role. One person prefers it softer, the other firmer. The use of two height-adjustable slatted frames 90×200 cm and the desire for both sides of the bed to be individually adjustable can also speak in favor of single mattresses. There are various solutions to prevent the typical visitor's crack that occurs between the mattresses:

  • A narrow, slightly higher bed frame that keeps the mattresses together
  • Two mattress cores in one mattress cover
  • A love bridge or gap filler
  • A topper can connect both sides of the bed
  • In combination with the bed frame, a large fitted sheet can strengthen the connection between the two mattresses

Sometimes the decision to opt for single mattresses instead of a full-length mattress is also a question of price. High-quality mattresses require more elaborate workmanship and more complex manufacturing processes. This is why a double-size mattress often does not simply cost as much as two single mattresses.

Buying a 90×200 cm Mattress: This is Important

Although the 90×200 cm mattress is the ideal mattress for individuals, it does not meet all requirements. It is therefore worth asking yourself a few questions before buying.

How do You Sleep?

Do you tend to sleep peacefully or do you toss and turn across the bed during the night? If you often wake up lying on your side, you should opt for a wider mattress.

How Sociable Are You?

Living alone does not necessarily mean sleeping alone. If you prefer to sleep in company, you should think about buying a mattress with a larger sleeping surface.

How Big is Your Bed?

Time and again, ill-considered bargain hunts can end in annoyance. You will normally spend several years sleeping on your mattress. So don't rush into a purchase decision. Especially not because you see a really cheap offer that appears to be “only valid for a short time”. For the sake of your health and sleep quality, buy a quality product carefully and consider the dimensions of your bed beforehand. Many a hasty mattress purchase otherwise ends either in a crack in the side of the bed, which has to be unattractively stuffed with towels and other items of laundry, or even with the purchase of a new bed to match the mattress. The latter scenario in particular puts any bargain price into perspective.

Mattress 90×210 cm and Mattress 90×220 cm

For an optimal sleeping experience, there should be an additional 10 cm of space in the head and foot area. From a certain height, the 90x200 mattress can be a little cramped. If you need a little more space, we offer the 90×210 cm mattress and the 90×220 cm mattress. The BODYGUARD® Mattress in the standard size 90×200 cm is tested for people up to 192 cm tall. The 90×210 cm mattress and the 90×220 cm mattress are suitable for anyone who is taller and for anyone who likes to have more space at the head and foot end.

The Matching Fitted Sheet

Fitted sheets should match the length, width and height of the mattress. With a comfortable height and an all-round elastic band, the sheet can be covered quickly and stays where it should be.

A 90×220 cm fitted sheet is the perfect addition for extra-long mattresses with a width of 90 cm. Fitted sheets that are designed for 200 cm long mattresses usually have no room for maneuver in terms of length. The BODYGUARD® Jersey Fitted Sheet 90×220 cm, on the other hand, fits perfectly on the 90×210 cm mattress and on the 90×220 cm mattress.

The Matching Slatted Frame

Whether two 90×200 cm mattresses in a double bed or the popular 90×200 mattress in a single bed: the matching 90×200 cm slatted frame fits perfectly - under the single bed and in a double version under the double bed. The maximum width of the slatted frame 140×200 cm should not be exceeded. A few retailers do offer wider custom-made products on request, but this is to the detriment of suspension, price and return policy. You decide whether you want to sleep on two individual 90×200 cm mattresses or one continuous 180×200 cm mattress in your double bed. However, the spring base should always be provided by two individual 90×200 cm slatted frames.

When buying a 90×200 cm slatted frame, look out for wooden slats that rest on the rails. Spring slats that are clamped into the bars result in unsprung mattress sides. In the case of a slat base for a double bed, this constellation also results in an unsprung bed center.
