Topper 200×200 cm – The Crowning Glory of the King-Size Mattress
The trend toward box spring beds helped the 200×200 cm topper achieve international success. The Scandinavian version of this voluminous bed system is always crowned with a topper, which makes the sleeping experience even softer. A topper not only influences the feeling of lying down. The 200×200 cm topper also creates a continuous lying surface over two single mattresses in a double bed.
200×200 cm Topper as a Love Bridge
Sleep needs vary. In relationships, it is often the case that one person prefers a soft mattress and the other prefers a firm one. This means you need two mattresses with different firmness levels in your double bed. A 200×200 cm topper can bridge the often annoying gap between the two mattresses. Since a topper usually creates a softer lying sensation, make sure that the mattresses are slightly firmer than you would normally prefer when purchasing them. The BODYGUARD® mattress offers two degrees of firmness in one mattress. If the mattress feels too soft with the topper, simply turn the mattress over to the firmer side. If you want to sleep without the topper again, turn the mattress back to the softer side.
A Pull-Out Couch Becomes a Guest Bed
It's not just guests who sleep on fold-out sofas and pull-out couches. In cramped living conditions, these pieces of furniture serve as both living and sleeping areas. In the latter case, the sofa bed is even used every night. This makes it particularly important that the often very hard pull-out surface does not interfere with sleeping comfort in the long term. In addition to differences in upholstery, there is often a noticeable gap between the seating and pull-out surfaces. A 200×200 cm topper can turn an uneven pull-out couch into a continuous king-size bed. A sufficiently thick topper can compensate somewhat for the different degrees of firmness between the upholstered seating surface and the often thinly covered pull-out surface.
A Topper is Not a Cure-All
A topper is primarily designed to do one thing: make the mattress softer. In a few cases, the opposite effect is desired and achievable: a latex topper can minimize sinking into a mattress that is too soft, thus providing a firmer lying sensation. No matter which way you want to change the lying sensation, it is important that the topper does not negatively affect the ergonomics of your mattress. The BODYGUARD® Topper is ideally matched to the ergonomic modules of the BODYGUARD® Mattress.
However, the power of a topper is limited. Even the best topper cannot compensate for an ergonomically unfavorable mattress or even lying hollows.
Die Kraft eines Toppers ist jedoch begrenzt. Eine ergonomisch unvorteilhafte Matratze oder gar Liegekuhlen kann selbst der beste Topper nicht ausgleichen.
200×200 cm Topper: The Ideal Material
Topper materials are similar to those used in mattresses. However, toppers and mattresses do not have to be made of the same material to work well together. Most materials used for 200×200 cm toppers offer a softer lying comfort.
Comfort FoamTopper
Comfort foam toppers are made from polyurethane. They are often advertised as PU foam, PUR foam, or comfort foam toppers. Their manufacturing process requires little effort. A 200×200 cm topper made from PU foam is less point-elastic. It tends to yield more evenly across its surface and therefore provides moderate support.
Cold Foam Topper
Cold foam is also made of polyurethane. However, it is more complex to process, the material is more stable, and it responds more precisely to pressure than comfort foam. Thanks to its higher-quality processing, a 200x200 cm cold foam topper is also more durable.
Memory Foam Topper
Memory foam remembers the impression you leave behind. The foam adapts precisely to the contours of your body and then remains in this position for some time. This memory foam makes 200×200 memory foam toppers sluggish and unsuitable for restless sleepers. In addition, the material reacts to the outside temperature by becoming increasingly difficult to deform and feeling harder as the temperature drops.
Gel Foam Topper
Gel foam toppers are particularly soft mattress pads. Gel foam toppers also have a memory effect. However, the intensity and duration of this effect is not affected by the outside temperature.
Latex Foam Topper
The sturdy latex toppers can make a soft mattress feel firmer. The material is extremely dimensionally stable and durable. However, those who sweat easily are less well advised to choose a latex topper, as it is not very breathable.
Topper 200×200 on Height-Adjustable Slatted Frames
The king-size bed with a 200×200 cm topper is supported by two 100x200 cm slatted frames. If you use height-adjustable slatted frames and want to adjust each side of the bed individually, you will need a split topper. This is a 200×200 cm topper that is split in the middle at the head and foot ends. A split topper 200x200 cm does not slip when the slatted frame is raised on one side. The lying surface is still continuous, as the topper is not separated in the middle section.
Please note: In addition to the split topper, you will need a fitted sheet for split toppers measuring 200×200 cm. Normal sheets would slip off if the sides of the bed were significantly different heights. Such a sheet is an additional purchase that you should take into account in your cost calculation.
A 200×200 cm Mattress Topper Does Not Have to Be a Topper
Even though the term is sometimes understood as another name for a topper, a 200×200 cm mattress topper is not necessarily the same thing as a topper. Depending on the interpretation, a 200×200 cm mattress topper is an umbrella term for anything you can put on a mattress. In most cases, this refers to all mattress toppers other than toppers. A 200×200 cm mattress topper usually only has a protective function and does not improve lying comfort. For example, a 200×200 cm mattress topper can protect against moisture or simply act as a layer of fabric to protect the mattress cover.
Since a 200x200 cm topper is thinner than a mattress, its lifespan is also slightly shorter. For hygienic reasons, you should replace your topper after about seven to eight years.
