Bed Linen 155×220 cm: Sizes Used to Their Full Potential

The standard size and also the most popular bed linen format in Germany is 135×200 cm. As a general rule, the duvet should be at least 20 cm longer than you are tall. For teenagers or adults up to 1.80 m tall, the standard size is usually sufficient. If you are taller than 1.80 m, you will definitely be more comfortable under a longer duvet. 155×220 cm bed linen is therefore well suited for taller people who want sufficient freedom of movement under a duvet. But even if you are under 1.80 m tall but tend to have cold feet, you will benefit from the comfort length. This is because it provides enough fabric to keep your feet warm. The 155×220 cm bed linen also offers people who are slightly broader or who often turn in their sleep enough space under the duvet.

Bed Linen 155x220 cm for Double Duvets?

A duvet with bed linen measuring 155×220 cm provides plenty of comfortable space for one person. A single 155x200 cm duvet is less than ideal for two people. Double duvets usually start at a width of 200 cm and come with matching 200×200 cm bed linen or longer 200x220 cm bed linen. If you like to snuggle up in your duvet, move around a lot in your sleep or love to stick your hands or feet out from under the duvet at night, then a double duvet is probably not for you. Under these circumstances, it is simply best to sleep under your own duvet, no matter who you share your bed with.

155×220 cm Bed Linen for Every Season

In addition to the optimal size of the duvet, the material of the bed linen plays an important role in your sleeping comfort. 155×220 cm bed linen is available in many different fabrics and materials.

In summer, fabrics such as satin, linen, renforcé and linon are particularly comfortable. Their smooth surface retains less heat and the material usually absorbs sweat well and evaporates it quickly. Summer bed linen made from these breathable fabrics feels light and airy. Blankets covered with 155x200 cm seersucker bed linen also have an airy effect. The crepe-like surface of the cotton fabric promotes air circulation in the blanket.

During the cold months, 155x200 cm bed linen made of terry cloth, beaver or flannel bed linen is ideal. The fluffy surface of the fabrics feels cosy against the skin. Good 155x200 cm winter bed linen ensures that neither increased perspiration nor cooler room temperatures have a negative impact on your sleeping climate thanks to its breathable properties.

Bed Linen 155x220 Cm for People with Dust Mite Allergies

Special encasings for mattresses and bed linen are available for people with house dust allergies. For mild allergies or intolerances, high-quality microfibre fabrics can be used. Thanks to their fine texture, they do not absorb mites as quickly. Microfibre is also easy to care for and has good moisture management properties. This makes microfibre textiles suitable for use all year round. In summer, the material quickly releases excess heat to the outside, while in winter it can be used as a fleece blanket, for example, to create a cosy feeling. When buying 155x220 cm microfibre bed linen, make sure it is of high quality. Poorly manufactured products are a disadvantage, especially in summer, as they can promote perspiration. Lyocell bed linen is also a good alternative. The regenerated cellulose fibre is extremely breathable and quickly releases absorbed moisture to the outside. It is also easy to machine wash. For this reason, both microfibre and Lyocell are suitable for use as 155×220 cm bed linen for allergy sufferers.

You sleep in direct contact with bed linen and sheets all night long. Hygienic washability is therefore essential. Bed linen made from animal-based materials such as silk or wool, which are still touted as ‘natural materials’ but have long since become ethically unacceptable, are particularly lacking in this respect. Most 155x220 cm bed linen made from wool or silk cannot be washed at temperatures higher than 30°C. Before purchasing your 155x220 cm bed linen, make sure that you can wash it at a hygienic 60 °C. Only at this temperature can germs be reliably killed. How often you should wash your bed linen, including sheets, depends largely on how often you use it.

You should change your bed linen more often if you:

  • sweat or drool heavily
  • eat in bed
  • have asthma, allergies or skin problems
  • do not shower before going to bed
  • smoke
  • sleep with animals in your bed
  • sleep naked
  • use your mattress without a mattress cover

Good bed linen should be of high quality: high-quality bed linen measuring 155x220 cm is made of robust material and can be washed at a hygienic 60°C without any problems – zips or buttons are securely sewn on. Different fabrics feel more comfortable depending on the season: fluffy fabrics in winter and smooth fabrics in summer.

There is no bed linen that prevents sweating per se. However, there are fabrics that absorb sweat well and quickly release it back into the environment. This is called breathability. Breathable bed linen measuring 155x220 cm can be made from different materials. Cotton, linen and polyester are particularly suitable.

The 155x220 cm bed linen is the comfort size. It is slightly longer and wider than the standard size bed linen 135x200 cm. Here, taller and heavier people can snuggle up just as comfortably as smaller and slimmer people.
