Fitted Sheet 160×200 – Cover for a Cosy Double Bed

To ensure that the sheet fits snugly on narrower double or queen-size beds measuring 160×200 cm, you need a fitted sheet measuring 160×200 cm. Unlike classic sheets measuring 160x200 cm, fitted sheets have elasticated edges that allow them to fit tightly. This means you don't have to pull and smooth the sheet every time. Depending on the height of your mattress, or if you want to use a topper on your mattress, you should make sure that your 160x200 cm fitted sheet has sufficient height.

Pay attention to the Bridge Height for High Mattresses

To ensure that your 160×200 cm fitted sheet fits your mattress properly, you should pay attention to the appropriate bridge height. The bridge height indicates the maximum height allowed for the fitted sheet. If you need a 160×200 cm fitted sheet for a box spring bed or waterbed, a sheet with a really high bridge height is the right choice. This is often also the case if you want to put an additional topper on your mattress. For conventional mattresses, a bridge height of around 20 to 25 cm is sufficient. The BODYGUARD® Jersey Fitted Sheet offers a bridge height of approx. 30 cm and, in combination with the BODYGUARD® Mattress, ensures a snug fit – even with a topper.

Mattress with Topper – Spoilt for Choice When it Comes to Covers

Mattress with topper – spoilt for choice when it comes to covers If you sleep in a box spring bed on a particularly high mattress and also use a topper, many fitted sheets will reach their limits. If you don't have a 160x200 cm fitted sheet with extra high side height, you can also just cover the topper. Some box spring beds are even designed for this. In this case, you will need a special 160×200 cm fitted sheet for the topper. A 160x200 cm topper cover is specially adapted to the flat height of the mattress topper. This is important because conventional fitted sheets are simply too large for toppers and would overlap. However, if the topper and mattress are not connected under a 160×200 cm bed sheet, the topper can quickly slip on the mattress. A fitted sheet with an extra high bridge height reliably encloses your high mattress and topper and ensures a firm hold throughout the night.

Cotton: The Fabric that Dreamy Sheets are Made of

Cotton fitted sheets measuring 160×200 cm are in high demand in Germany. Cotton is breathable, climate-regulating, and feels soft against your skin. Depending on the type of cotton, fiber quality, and processing method, different fabrics can be made from cotton. Roughened sheets such as flannel retain heat and feel cozy on cool autumn or winter nights, while smooth satin fitted sheets are pleasantly cool on hot summer nights. Thanks to its climate-regulating properties, cotton jersey fabric is suitable for every season. For people with dust mite allergies, 160×200 microfiber sheets are a good choice.

What is a Good 160×200 cm Fitted Sheet?

For good quality, 160×200 cm fitted sheets should have the highest possible fabric weight. The fabric density tells you how tightly the fabric of the sheet is knitted and thus how stable and durable your sheet can be. It is given in grams per square meter (g/m²). In addition to a high cotton content, high-quality fitted sheets always contain a small amount of elastic synthetic fibers, known as elastane. This material mix makes the sheet stretchy and ensures a good fit. Another factor that helps your sheet stay in place on the mattress is the elastic band. Make sure that the elastic runs all the way around the sheet. Some fitted sheets only have elastic sewn into the corners or elastic that is too thin, which quickly wears out or even tears.

The quality of the elastic is often linked to washability. Poor-quality material can usually only be washed at lower temperatures. Fitted sheets should be washable at a minimum of 60°C. This is the only way to ensure that dust mites and germs are actually killed.

Distinguishing features of quality fitted sheets:
  • A high fabric density of at least 200 g/m²
  • 4–5% elastane content for flexibility
  • Sturdy elastic on all sides of the sheet
  • Washable at 60 °C

Buy High-Quality Sheets

For a 160x200 cm mattress, you should use a fitted sheet in the appropriate size. Due to their elasticity, most fitted sheets come in so-called “from-to” sizes. This means that they fit two or more mattress sizes. However, according to the packaging instructions, a 160x200 cm fitted sheet should not cover too many sizes. This could cause the sheet to sag or slip off the bed. Two sizes are ideal. A 160x200 cm fitted sheet usually fits both a 140x200 cm mattress and a 160x200 cm mattress.

The European definition of a queen-size bed differs from the original American one. In Germany, beds between 140 and 160 cm wide are considered queen-size beds. Most fitted sheets for queen-size beds therefore cover exactly these two sizes.

The bridge height measures how high the fitted sheet needs to be and also leaves some leeway so that you can tuck your sheet under the mattress. For normal-height mattresses up to 22 cm high, a 160x200 cm fitted sheet with a bridge height of 30 cm is ideal. For higher mattresses in box spring or waterbeds, you will need an extra-high 160x200 cm fitted sheet.
